Russian frankness in a linguocultural aspect has been researched by some Russian linguists, such as E. M. Vereschagin, V. V. Dementyev, etc. A vast list of literature referred to this issue can be found in the dissertation of M. M. Naumova. The article suggests considering frankness as one of the constants of Russian linguoculture through the speech genre of refusal. The above mentioned genre is a large communicative phenomenon. Categorical refusal is a speech genre which requires frankness leading to effective communication. The author pays attention to the signs of situation of the categorical refusal breaking up, collision of value orientations (job and universal values), public frankness. The article describes the value orientations of a fundamental refusal and its verbalization. The main feature of the categorical refusal is a sequence of its implementation, durability, independence from
up-to-the-minute changes. The main conclusion: frankness as a constant of Russian linguoculture organizes communicative interaction in critical situations, including the situations of categorical refusal. Research materials: Russian National Corpus, texts from the author’s archive, recorded speech genre interviews containing frank discussions of the situations of fundamental refusals.
