Rumors in the paradigm of linguistic genristics
The present article provides a comprehensive analysis of rumors as an informative genre transmitting unauthorized news. The goal of this genre is mass distribution of initially oral current news, the authorship and reliability (veracity) of which are uncertain and for which no one is liable.
The author 1) analyzes the mechanism of rumors transmission via Oral Channel of communication, identifying the main parameters of that mechanism – “the moment of introduction”, “the method of transmission”, “the frequency of transmission”, as well as “the space” and “time” parameters. Each of these can operate in two modes – normal and intensified; 2) examines the texts of media-rumors, defining their functions and typical semantic space / aspects of unauthorized news – war, politics, economics, health, personal relationships; 3) describes the rumor model in the linguistic picture of the world, reconstructing “natural” and “artificial” scripts of the rumor cycle through the phases of Transmission → Perception → Existence, etc.
As a result, rumors are presented as one of the modes of mass interaction that subtly responds to the structure of the speech collective, significance of the theme, as well as to time and space parameters of the dialogue.
